fantastic work!
I am curious what you did with the green one. How did it taste? wasn't it worth going on with this one? |

Thanks!
From the heart cross I got two plants with tri coloured tomatoes. A regular leaf and a potato leaf, both are very good, the potato leaf is too similar to captain lucky to be considered unique. The regular leaf is good but there are better ones from that group imo. I will keep the seeds for future. From the delicious cross there was one tri colour, this one with a yellow epidermis. A medium round globe. Very good but again there are others I like better. Karen |

First "for sure" and named selection:
LPH x CL PL #2. Chosen for it's outstanding flavour, it is a beautiful pink beefsteak from a vigorous and healthy potato leaf plant. I love the uniform shape and colour with the tight blossom scar and small stem. All the fruit on the plant, (there were 34) look just like these. zero disease, zero cracking, zero blossom end rot. Plant completely healthy until it was taken out by frost this week. Strong sweet-tangy flavour, solid, few seeds. thin, clear epidermis. Gets 10 spots in the garden for an F3 growout next year. I am calling it "Wild Rose Country" which is the motto of Alberta, the province I live in. Lovely fruit and name - it is such a rose colour.
I couldn't find which was which at first, on your blog - you know, you have some pix there of a very pretty bicolour fruit which is labeled LPH X CL PL #3? |

LPH x CL potato leaf #3 is my next selection. It was my idealistic dream when I crossed Ludmilla's pink heart with captain lucky to breed a fancy/ unique potato leaf heart. This bicolour heart ripens from light green to solid pale yellow and then pink streaks develop from the blossom end upward until at full ripeness the fruits almost have an apricot colour. The interior is a dark gold with pink marbling. Earlier fruits were nearly seedless, later ones are still very meaty but have more seeds. Delicious tangy flavour. They stay firm and keep well. Proud of this one and it gets 10 spots in the garden as an F3 next year.
