Default Garlic -- hardneck vs softneck

Hardnecks ... have much larger cloves, easier to peel, you get a nice scape to saute, and I think they have much better flavor.

Softnecks ... store a bit longer, 8-12 months, vice 6-10 mos for hardnecks.

Why would I even consider softnecks? What am I missing here?
