Mine were way more bronze looking than either of those two pictures indicate. Sorry, I don't have any pictures. But they looked nearly identical to what is shown on the Wild Boar Farms web catalog. Looks like the variety is still evolving. Easy to understand when you read Brad's standard paragraph about how he selects his tomatoes.

But they were very fast and helpful. Is this heart shaping oly happening in fall? wondering if I should slip one in Spring instead?

And the winner is...drumroll please...Noire Charbonneuse. It is attempting to pop it's head out first. Way to go Carolyn! I have had it planted less than 3 full days. I think this is seed from 2004 I need to remmeber how that seed dance goes so I can get the rest up!

Kat where are they spouting in the house and do you have lights on them or will you?

After they sprout you should spray them and the soil with a solution of around 1 part hydrogen peroxide 10 parts water.
this will help stop damping off.

I don't even measure I just eyeball it.

I have them in my breakfast nook for now. It has 3 windows in a bay type configuration. They are more north facing. I also have a spare bedroom I can go to. It has a window that is about 9 ft tall facing south. There are 2 other windows in the room facing east. I can raise blinds and pull back curtains without any issues (slowly becoming an empty nester). That room gets alot of light. Which would you suggest. Last year I just kept them outside on good days. They did fine that way too. Up to any suggestions. No extra lighting. Not planning on getting any (read I hate the dentist thread)
Kat
PS worth, Do you use just plain ole hydrogen peroxide? and how many should come up before I spray?

A cloudy day is brighter than a grow light that most people use.
The south window is good but as you say on any day that it is 40 or above mine will go outside.
Sometimes they will stay out in the mid 30's but not often.

You just have to make sure they get plenty of light so they dont get LOOOOOOOONG AAANNNDDD LEEEEEGGYYYY

Purple coloring is Ok it will go away when it warms up.
Let the breeze blow on them it will make them strong.

Use plain old hydrogen household peroxide.

After all of them come up or now it really doesn't matter.the damping off is caused by bacteria and other nasty's in the soil.
Not much to worry about if you use peat for a starting soil
but potting soil can cause this to happen.
Letting the top of the soil to dry out and a breeze helps too.

The early seedling stage is when you have to worry the most.

I just used the plain ole coconut fiber in the Burpee 72 cell greenhouse. I know alot of people don't like them but a) it was only thing available that I could find going to three different stores b) I used it last year and had better luck than with seed starting mixures around here. My opinion is that any system that works for you is a good system

I started one last year but still haven't finished it I always start with good intentions but you know I am...Lazy! Anyway this year I am just going to enjoy the experience. Of course that is now that the seeds have been planted and I can stop becoming fixated about which varities for spring. Then I can prematuraly obcess about fall planting and what varities. But other than that?? I am relaxing
Kat
PS. Lilian's yellow heirloom, Zigan, 3 Brandywine Cherry seeds have germinated and hopfully more up as we speak.

Thank you! Indeed we have. Mine is still evolving...I have started inserting tomato descriptions to pop-up when you scroll over each variety.

Certifiable Geek,
