German Pink Tomato
I have a question. I was looking for a different pink variety and came across the German Pink. The problem I've encountered is that some websites describe this as an early season variety (tomato growers Supply) while others say it is a late season variety. Which is it? Is there more than tomato going by this name or is this a matter of variable growing conditions? Is there another pink variety that users would recommend? I can only grow a limited number of plants so I'm looking for good production.

Here's some history http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/German_Pink https://www.seedsavers.org/german-pink-tomato If you read the last link you'll see that it was one of the first tomato varieties that started the whole heirloom tomato era. Also you can trust the first link to Tania's superb tomato base since she notes all the information you asked about such as early, late mid season late season, etc. It definitely is NOT early season, more like late mid-season to late season depending on the weather in any one season. Many have grown it here at Tville ,I have as well. As for what you said you found at Totally Tomatoes, I think I remember who that is and did you get a catalog that had title of Seed and Such and special dealies everywhere. And I also recall that his name is Hilton. And this is not his first time around the block with a seed catalog. I and others know him well. Carolyn

I had in cultivation:
German Johnson Pink (NL) seeds were from Kokopelli and German Johnson (PL) seeds from Kokopelli [/url] One of both shall be in the cross from Sgt. Pepper and German Johnson shall be the precursor from Mortgage Lifter |

There's also German Queen and German Johnson (Benton Strain). Both are pink and great on the taste buds. I grow German Queen at least every other year. I set them out in late May and usually begin the harvest in early to mid July. If I was selling tomatoes, folks around here would buy every German Queen I could grow.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Which of these do you think provide the best balance of and production? Last year I tried one called Rozovyi Gigant from Nikotovka Seeds but my garden was a bit of a disaster so it wasn't a fair trial.

I would recommend Mikado, the seeds from Tatiana.

I would suggest that you try
http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Omar%27s_Lebanese And I'll be back with some other possible ones when I have more time to think about it. Are pink hearts OK to be considered.? Do all suggestions have to be pink? Carolyn, just noting once again that performance of ANY variety is highly variable based on year grown, how grown, any amendments used, etc.

I still have to go back and try to think, ahem,if the original poster would allow me to suggest some great Pink Hearts. If great taste is desired, why even limit it at all to hearts, any fruit shape should be allowed IMO. Carolyn
