I had quite a few varieties fermenting early September. 22 plants
from the DwarfProject were not giving me many fruit ripening at the same time so it was multiple 'small batch' to insure I at least had some seed from the best plants. One notably variety had very few seeds. After the fermenting no seed existed. They disintegrated. Guessing weak underdeveloped seed coat, testa. and how many times I've stared at seed images and testa never clicked. Fortunately later fruit had good strong seed. So some seeds have frail seed coats. But most all strainers will, microscopically, start to deteriorate over time and become like sandpaper...even the nylon mesh like I use. I just use the spray pattern from the sink faucet. It is tempting to rub a bit. Some seeds benefit from stratification or scaring to simulate nature. In a way I suppose that is what you did but I would guess DOA if not planted right away. |
