Default Your Favorite Determinate

What's your favorite determinate tomato? Seems determinate tomatoes don't get the love that the indeterminates do.

Last year I tried a dozen of Oregon Spring and a dozen of Bush Beefsteak for something different and to see how they stack up compared to the Mountain Fresh Plus that we grow every year. I was not impressed, though just about everything struggled in our garden last year.

So I was thinking of giving the OS and the BB another try this year, but wouldn't mind scraping them for something else. I would hate to scrap them if they are worth growing over a normal year.

So I am curious as to what your favorite determinate tomatoes are. Do you have one that is always dependable even in off weather years?

Good flavor and early harvest for multiple plantings in the same space?

I'm growing Mountain Fresh Plus and Tasti Lee now but no ripe fruit yet. Tasti-Lee is just setting fruit now.

I just pulled Maglia Rosa and that was a good tasting determinate.

Did your MFP produce and taste good when your other 2 didn't last year?

The MFP did not do as well as it has in previous years. The cool wet spring and record rainfall put a damper on production. The MFP did do better than either the OS or the BB though. Flavor was good though a little more bland than normal. The extra moisture seems to of washed out some of the flavor.

Bread and Salt is a favourite, but I noticed lately some seed sources state that it's an indeterminate. For me it was a true determinate and it gave the best and sweetest pink tomatoes.
Siniy and New Yorker were also great.

I've heard of New Yorker, but no experience with it or know anyone that grows it. I'll look into it a little more along with the others you've mentioned.

I can't wait to move to Texas. The wife took the wind out of those sails for now though...

Just a short list:

Belyi Naliv, an early medium red globe
Bradley, a medium pink round
Bread and Salt, agree with Dapseeds, productive and early enough for me, and tasty
Budenovka Pink, a favourite large pink heart - perhaps semi-determinate
Danko, medium red heart
Goldman's Italian American, medium red pear, also quite prolific for me
Latah, early red saladette
Maglia Rosa, ?semi-det? delicious
Marzano Fire, semi-det., red and yellow paste, yum
Monomakh's Hat, another favourite semi-det pink heart
Principe Borghese, small red plum
Zolotoe Serdtse, medium golden heart, prolific and tasty

Did not list all of the determinate microdwarfs/cherries, also the Romas, etc. Enough of a variety?

That certainly gives me some more reading material. Thank you for the list.

Well that's weird. I had it in full sun too but no blemishes whatsoever.

I grew New Yorker years ago using good seeds, and it had sun scald like no other tomato I've ever grown. First problem -- it had incredibly sparse foliage. But I think there was more to the story than that. Never even thought about growing it again!

Think about the latitude you live at and the one I live at.
Our sun is much stronger.

Which Bread and Salt?

The oblate (aka Khlebosolnye), or the heart?
