Bean root issues...pics..what the?!?!
Was pulling some old beans out of the ground when I noticed this!
What are they? Harmful? They were on the roots of yellow and Purple string beans which did pretty good btw so I don't think it hurt production too bad. Plants seemed to get old fast so maybe it did. New raised beds this year started with their version of planting mix and mushroom compost. It has been VERY wet here in NC this year!! any help would be great! Thanks, Greg |

Without being able to physically examine the nodules, I would have to say that you have examples of nitrogen fixing bacteria growing there. Rhizobium spp or similiar. Something good and worth having, especially if your mix is low in nitrogen.

I don't rip mine out for that reason- just cut at soil level and leave all that goodness in the soil and rotate the beans the next year.
