Default quick harvest and 2nd batch

Hello,

These are some that made it to the table. Included in this pic are small Black from Tulas, a lone Cosmonaut Volkov, a few Ponderosa Reds, and Black Prince. I've been contending with unusually humid weather, and some of my blacks have succumbed to fungal attacks.

Thanks to the very generous nature of Tomatovillians, I've been able to modify my grow list to pivot away from the blacks and embrace a few others. Fingers crossed.

The fungal butcher's bill has included Black Prince, Black from Tula, Cherokee Purple, Cosmonaut Volkov and Green Doctor's Frosted (the last 2 got it from being right next to their dark siblings).

To replace them, I've prepared an assortment of varieties that will be monitored more closely with preventative measures in full effect: daconil, pruning, bleach, milk, and worm tea foliar sprays, and copper. Thanks Tomatovillians!!

This is my rooftop "greenhouse."

I also have a lot of Hearts that are already in their containers and are well on their way.

Thanks Tomatovillians!!

It must be nice to have a do-over. I get one shot, although the season is pretty long.

That it is. Around here you get a couple of do-overs. And if one modifies the final planting to be cold-tolerant, you can have tomatoes year round. I stumbled onto this fact by accident this past winter, as I was able to keep a Japanese Black Trifele and a Cosmonaut Volkov pumping out non-stop; outdoors of course.

Anyone have any suggestions on cold-tolerant varieties?

Default tomato containers

Gerardo...the tomato containers you are using are how big? Do you transplant again into bigger pots or not? I use 15 and 20 gallon containers for 1 tomato plant each pot.

My containers vary, but usually 3-4 plants per 25 gallon rootpot. Yields are a bit smaller but I get variety. Need to stay on top of pruning to avoid air circulation issues. Also place individual plants in 7 gallon containers. The largest projected tomatoes (Joe's pink, nar, dester) go in a 45 gallon rootpot.

Greg
I definitely will. Two Shannon plants sharing a 25 gallon rootpot with a lone NAR. They are growing nicely.

Gracias!

Most of the seedlings in the previous pic are already in their respective containers and setting fruit.

I've been pushing them as much as I can with worm/compost tea, M.O.A.B. (Mad Farmer), and Neptunes.

Below is the 3rd batch: Gary O'Sena, Carbon, Germ Johnson PL, Eva Purple Ball, BkX, Cour di Bue, So. Ozark Orange, Orange Russian 117, Orange Minsk Heart, Brad's Black Heart.

More to come.
