Default Lo and behold, they did grow!

When I started my garden in early May, I had no idea that I would actually be able to grow anything. I didn't know if I would have enough sun. I didn't know if the deer or squirrels would eat everything I tried to plant. I wasn't sure on how to space my plants. Basically I only knew that I wanted to give it a try (and that I really wanted a homegrown tomato). I've made mistakes, but thankfully I'm learning as I go and the veggies have been doing pretty darn well despite my lack of knowledge.

As you can see, my cucumbers have grown all the way out of their cages and over the top of the fence. They have swallowed and strangled some herbs along the way that got in their path, lol. The deer come up to the fence and prune the leaves back at night, but so far have left the actual vine and the cukes! I keep telling the plant that I can't protect it if it continues to try and escape.

My tomato plants have also climbed much higher than I could have imagined. This past weekend I had to go out and makeshift some taller stakes and string to keep them from falling over their 5 foot cages. I guess I'll be picking some tomatoes on a ladder if they ever decide to start ripening.

Another note to self.....squash needs a lot of room to spread. Who knew?

Your garden is so lovely!! I really love how it's all set up, and it's giving me lots of ideas for when I've got some dirt of my own. Congratulations on successful growth!

Thanks! In the bottom picture, the plants on the left are Beefmaster and they tower over the plants on the right which are Celebrity.

Beautiful garden, TC. I think that qualifies as tropical rain forest!

Thanks for all the great comments. It has been a ton of fun so far and I will definitely be making this a yearly project. I already have plans to start a compost pile (which I've never done before), and also to buy a leaf shredder by fall so that I can make my own mulch.

I have truly been grateful for the help I've received here at TV. You guys are awesome!
