I put them in water. This way I can keep them in reasonable light without wilting, so they don't need that much hardening off after. About 7 days for roots to appear, move to potting soil, keep another 6-7 days, first few in partial shade. So about after 2 weeks they are ready to transplant out.

I rooted over a hundred suckers this year, from my early crop of favorites, by just sticking them in wet pro mix. Now they are producing fruit in another greenhouse.

Mark, did you make a bias cut at the base and did you apply any rooting hormone? Or just straight Pro-Mix?
Btw, amazing how much productivity you can get from rooting suckers!

No hormone, just cut them straight off and put them in wet dirt, and for a week or so, put a few drops of water around the base, I have done hundreds like this. I do it to save space, until my other greenhouses are open for tomatoes and then multiply out my favorites into many plants, I also like it when I get fruitset an inch or two from the soil level. I will post some pics of this in a day or two
