Best Days Now To Sow Tomatoes

If planting by the moon, the best time to sow tomato seeds are during the waxing gibbous moon, from April 6 through April 12.

Your transplants will then be perfect to set in the garden after the new moon on May 27.

If you are also concerned with what astrological sign the moon is in, then avoid sowing on April 6,7, and 8 when the moon is in Leo, a barren fire sign. Best would be April 9 and 10 when the moon is in Virgo, a fertile earth sign.

Next winter I am going to experiment a bit more with planting times....

I have been noticing some interesting quirks with seeds that I have replanted later after getting poor germination. The seeds will almost germinate 100 % the second time. Conditions are pretty darn equal and I have been wondering if it was just bad seed roulette the first time or the moon...

Yes, I'm very familiar with Dearborn Farms. I used to do business with them back in the 80's and early 90's when they were still heavy into farming. Dominic Luccarelli built the place into the monster business it is today, and I assume his son Frank is still in charge now.

I must've accidentally stumbled on the right days to plant seeds back in Feb. as my Ramapos that started out kind of feeble are now lookin' like jungle understory as are the Indian Stripes and WI55-Gs that were planted right alongside them.

So ... I think I'll plant a few more seeds accordin' to Bark's April schedule next week!
