Default Kasachstan Rubin

Don't ask how it tastes, I took the picture first to go on record that something besides Grandfather Ashlock and Stupicke ripened this year.

Mine from last year were larger (1#) and more beefsteak like. I offer them in the SSE Yearbook.

Michael, here's a photo of a Kasachstan Rubin from Reinhard Kraft. I got my seeds from Manfred this spring. It's round and red, not beefsteak so I'm confused (no surprise) as I've been going by their description.

dcarch, my friend and I ate it this afternoon. Tomatoey and juicy. Very nice.

Got my seed from Manfred also in 2004 and while some on the plant look like Reinhards picture I have many much larger in size.

This would not be the first seeds Manfred has sent me that were wrong.

Oh dear. The first Kasachstan Rubins I got were from Germany, not Manfred, and they were pink beefsteaks. Quite nice but not what's shown at Reinhard's site. Actually mine aren't clustered like in the picture either. Maybe I'll go back to Carmello....

I was just about to say, very much like Carmello. My two Carmellos are really producing lots of 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" deep red fruits in four to five per clusters. Ripe fruits can stay on the vine for a long time without getting soft.
