I stock both...TomTone and PlantTone. In the planting holes spread around and mixed in with the soil. Worm casings mixed with some well aged compost here and there.
(worm composter in the garage) Neptune fish/kelp when i think of it in a sprayer. Drives the pups crazy so i give a good soil soak just before a rain shower to dilute into the soil. No ferts are good for the pups so i just keep an eye out for a few hours and use the 'leave it' command firmly and they stay off. Side dressing the cucurbits by making a hole with my hand at least 8 in keeps them out of it. I have something else that is a slower release but can't visualize the label. I use it to top dress the root crops. No expert reason...just started using it a couple years ago as i tend to forget those crops. |

You picked one of the very best.
Been using for 15 years, and continue to grow healthy tomatoes in the same raised beds. (Despite the "expert" advice to not grow the same veggies in the same soil year after year). |

Years ago i used GardensAlive brand garden food. Compared the labels at one point years ago and they are near identical. TomTone and PTone is 1/3rd the price. (ish)

http://www.espoma.com/wp-content/upl...Esp_Tomato.pdf and Plant tone 5-3-3. http://www.espoma.com/wp-content/upl...-datasheet.pdf Depends on how much you buy. I think you would like the plant tone or the citrus or tree tone. Quote:

One thing most folks don't think about is the inert ingredients in ferts. A great portion of conventional types is various kinds of salts. The last thing I want to put on my soil is a bunch of mineral salts and that's why I use the tomato tone....no salt

I have used tt for several years. I have had the best results mixing about 3/4 cups with compost and backfill.

You can get Tomato Tone and Garden Tone in 18# bags. I asked my local nursery that only had the small bags if they would order it and they did. It sells well for them so we are both happy. You never know unless you ask and that is one of the advantages local businesses have over big box stores.

Thank you Worth for posting the pictures answering the above question. My wife is going to bring home a bag of Plant tone for the rest of the garden. It is a dollar cheaper at Walmart than at Home Depot today. Her employee 10% discount makes it even cheaper. I'll ask her to see if they have the Lawn Food at Walmart. I know there were different Espoma products in one area. Last edited by AlittleSalt; April 9, 2016 at 04:15 PM. |

Wal-Mart in my town actually had a very nice selection of fertilizer, the best out of the big stores. I bought a big jug of Osmocote.
