Default Is it too late to start seed outside in Texas!

Thats just it!
Does anyone think I can get away with it?
Should I start later for a fall crop.
It's killing me not to have tomatoes this year.
Zone 8 Austin area.

Worth,

Texas A&M suggests a seed start of June 15th and plant out in late July or early August. My experience is that this is fine for indeterminates that benefit from the extra time but for earlier determinates I start seed late July by August 1 and set out in Sept. For potted dwarfs you can start seed late August and pot out mid Sept.

Last year I had tomatoes until it froze first of Feb.

Two years ago I had to cover them on Christmas eve as it snowed but they didn't die. Those in pots/buckets I just moved to the garage for the night.

Sounds good to me, I think I will put some in the ground when I get back it wont hurt to try.
PS I used to live in Angleton TX and I bet you know where that is.

Thanks
