Deborah, I make apple butter to sell at the farmers' market. No sugar added makes it very popular. People love it. I have 4 different apple varieties here including golden delicious so it is plenty sweet enough. Try it on waffles...yum!

Yes, I make apple butter It is easy. I peel and core the apples (it tastes best with a mixture of apples), then cut up and put in my Nesco roaster with some apple cider. They cook all day until very soft. Then, I blend with a stick blender and let cook down some more until it mounds on a spoon. I wait to add spices (cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, touch of cloves) until almost the right consistency, so it doesn't become too strong as it cooks down.

Fill half pint jars, remove bubbles with plastic knife, seal and process in boiling water bath for 10 mins. I get around 6-8 jars by the time it cooks down. I give out samples and most people love it. I don't understand why recipes call for cups and cups of sugar because it is plenty sweet enough. However, it will get moldy eventually, even in the refrigerator since it doesn't have extra sugar for preserving.

I used to buy Smuckers but I can't find it anymore. Maybe a farmer's market will have some. There's a big cheap jar in the stores, I think the brand is Tropical but it doesn't look appetizing.

I just looked on Amazon. Smuckers is $10 more than the store price I used to pay. Insane! There are others even more expensive.

Pretty much it's equivalent to white bread. Wheatena is whole grain and still has all the B vitamins and fiber in it, far better healthy choice. Note, some of the B vitamins are weakened in cooking, but still better than "white bread".

Debora we made apple butter by the boat load out of home picked apples.

You can also get a big jar of apple sauce and cook it down then add spices but you said you didn't like to cook.

No you slowly reduce it down the brown color comes from the spices.
This is why my apple pie is dark.

Apple Butter looks really good, surprised I've never tried it before.

After tasting some freshly made strawberry jam at a cafe in Berkeley, and learned to make my own, I could no longer enjoy store bought jams (even Trader Joe's), too artificial tasting and too coyly sweet. Whenever we have pancakes or waffles at home, I just make a fresh batch of jam with whatever we have on hand, peach, strawberry, frozen berries, apricot, kiwi, mango, etc.

Quick Jam -

Coarsely chop up fruits or berries of choice. Transfer to a small saucepan, and stir in sugar and lemon juice to taste. Cook over medium-high, stirring frequently, until jam is thickened and bubbles completely cover surface, fruit rises to the top, and jam sticks to a spoon when lifted, about 10 minutes. Serve or refrigerate for later use.

See you like to and or know how to cook that is a big big difference.

Let me put it this way.
We all need to eat, how and what we eat is our choice.
I like to cook so I eat home cooked meals.

I hate math but I have to use it all of the time.
So I use on line calculators to solve problems.
This is the equivalent of fast food math.

Aerial, that sounds easy even for a non-cooking dork like me!
