Hi, Tom. For some reason I didn't see your message before. I do think I miss out on some of the rose problems found in warm, humid climates. We had a cool summer and my roses were fabulous this year. In fact, just today I cut them back and hauled them to their winter home (a "rose room" in our detached garage). That always makes me a bit sad. I cut the last blossoms to bring indoors.

Anyway, I seldom have mildew, rarely get black spot, and have never had a Japanese Beetle (I don't think they live here). So what I lack in a perfect tomato-growing environment, I think I make up for with the roses!

I have four old roses that came with the house. My companion plants in that front bed facing the street are, drum roll, hot peppers this year. Mainly Variegata alternating with Peruvian Purple. Seedlings arre up and transplanted into cups. If it all works out as planned I'll take a pic of the hot hedge.

I always liked Angel Face. They smell nice, too. This one's a bit unhappy about a lack of water.

That's a really pretty rose. Lilac colour would go well with my house.

Here are two JFKs a tad past thier prime. Better ones in the bed today

Hi roses are another love of mine, especially antique and hardy varieties. I don't spray my roses, and they stay pretty healthy. I only have a few pics from the old cheap camera.
This is of The Fairy along the front walk to the house. To the left is a flower bed lining the walk with Silver Fir Trees that maybe you can make out.

This is of Hawkeye Belle, a Buck rose, that I just love.

I got a nice camera for Christmas, so I hope to take some good pics this year.

Is there a square inch where you haven't grown something in?

Very nice.

DARCH,
Lol! It is quite filled with plants, but there is a lawn still. Though I have become "the lady with all the plants" of the neighborhood : )
Thanks,
Remy

Well, speaking of roses.. in the backyard of our new house, we've planted 3 climbers, and one miniature. Don't recall the names right at this second.

Back in the previous garden, I had one rose bush that we planted for some color...

...speaking of Dcarch's "Tomatrose"

Hi rose growers. I want to start a rose garden for my wife. I'm starting to wonder if the place I have been preparing gets enough sun. "Full sun" here is brutal, but the place I had picked (west side of the house) gets sun from mid morning until mid afternoon. Does that sound like enough light for roses?

Hi, John.

5 or so hours of sun a day should be sufficient for
roses in the south -- I've even gotten by with a little
less here in Texas.

My Roses have some kind of yellowing on the leaves and they fall off and die - some kind of rust maybe?
I think its a disease that starts with an "A" ... anyone know how to stop it ?
