Default Earthboxes in Schools-neat video

Ran across this site when checking out a new container brochure.

The Growing Connection is a program where school children in different countries grow food in Earthboxes and share their experiences over the internet.

Be sure and watch the film. (right hand side, top line)

Great link thanks. It's great to see kids growing vegies and enjoying it. Who knows we might all have to grow more vegies and other foods to survive in the not to distant future. With the free trade agreements killing off farmers by the hundreds around the world, food could become to expensive or come from untrusted countries with dodgy farming practices. It is happening down here already.

I enjoyed the video very much --especially like to see American kids introduced to growing food and learning how a lack of resources impacts daily life in poor countries. (plus loved the music ie Bill Frisell).

Unfortunately, as everyone here knows the simplest, basic materials are not available. I have toured a demonstration farm in Florida that specializes in experimental agriculture that uses the lowest technology and inputs and then passes that information on to 3rd world countries and the point was made that even a 5 gallon bucket is a tremendous asset and not readily available. (You can use them for a VERY low-tech irrigation system.) Think of all of them that are just pitched here in this country.

Here is a shot of some experiments to figure out what is the least amount of soil one needs to grow in for later utilizing on top of roof tops and limited space situations.

Expensive potting mix and fertilizers certainly aren't in reach.
