Texas Angel, they may have been talking about a particular type of kitty litter, which is made of DE (diatomaceous earth) It is sometimes used alone or mixed with other potting materials. It can also sometimes be found at auto parts stores where it is used to soak up oil. (Regular clay kitty litter would end up a nasty mess.)

In fact, there are a ton of different uses for DE, including seed starting, which a bunch of us around here have tried with really good results. Here is a long thread about it. There is a lot of great information there if you are interested.

I used miracle gro moisture control this year! Won't use it next year the stuff is garbage! Mixing my own potting mix next year!
