Zarnitsa - Is it really buttery?
I received the seeds for Zarnitsa in this year's swap and found very little info on it. The few seed listing I did find all describe it has having a "buttery" flavor. I had never seen that term used to describe a tomato, so I decided I had to grow it and find out just what they mean by "buttery" tomato!
The plant is compact and bushy -- just a bit taller than the two determinates I have growing, and is flowering like crazy and really loading up with tomatoes -- over two dozen at last count. While I know taste is a highly personal matter, I'd love to hear some feedback from anyone who has grown it in the past. Given that it's proving to be my most productive eating variety, I hope it doesn't end up a spitter! |

i haven't heard of "buttery" flavor, but I've grown tomatoes with a "creamy" texture, iirc Caspian Pink.
I went to Tatiana's Tomatobase and used "buttery" as the search term. It looks like several varieties have been described as having a buttery flavor. If you've grown one of those, you may be able to get a better idea of what people mean when they use that term. |
