Still its bad enough …….most of the time in Victoria ……..we say

"do you remember the year it snowed ?" …...so ...bad enough for around here.

Its not that it is particularly "severe" its just we are so darn unprepared for a

"snow event " on the island.

Its not exactly iceberg alley here ….but we are so unprepared

for the late snow ..

we are mostly reliant on rain to wash away the snow in a few days

as we don't have much in snow removal resources compared to back east.

I have about 60 centimeters

I live inland off Highway 18

One of my kids belongs to the Ladysmith Orca's swim club. She hasn't been to swim this week. She likes the snow but it is getting in the way of her training plans and has had enough. She also does some practices at the Nanaimo Aquatic center.

We do a lot of driving during the week so we really would like the snow to go away. If I didn't have to drive as much as we do I would kind of like the snow it really can be fun.

Bah Humbug ! 3 days of school closures so far due to snow …

2 days was a bit fun …..but 3 days and snow records smashed ..is a bit much .

We have most insufficient snow removal resources ….as we usually just wait till it melts in a day .

Nothing left to do In Nanaimo but stay home safe and watch the movie "Dumb and Dumber" . Also have a sandwich and dream of fresh Tomato plants ..producing
the variety and quality we expect for 2019.

Would you Northwest people stop sending us all your snowy weather. After you are done it blows into us here in the Great Plains. Another 8-12 inches due here on the weekend.

Looks to me as though it is coming from the north pole!

If this little guy can sit out there and sing I think we'll all survive.

Actually, I'm recovering from the garden work done before all this started and can use the rest.

Yay for winter birds and lovely pic, Coastal! I really need to up my skills because I'd love to catch the antics of Juncos in my garden midwinter. I leave the herb straw standing because they forage on the stalks sticking up through the snow. They are a riot playing tag with eachother among the stalks. Whenever I leave the house I usually hear friendly chirping in the forest. Not sure who it is, I have got glimpses of sparrows, kinglets, and others but rarely, they seem to stay well tucked away for the most part. Our winter doesn't melt the day after, generally! But they sing anyway.

I know about your snow hardship up in PNW. I lived there 3 years but never saw a major snow fall in Seattle, WA area.
Anyway, our spring naturally should arrive on time, here in NC. By then (March 21st) I might even attempt planting out few tomatoes.
Maple trees are budding here now, beautiful pink
Have a nice spring to come

Bower, speaking of Kinglets, I had one visit a few years ago during the month of January.
Sipping at a hummingbird feeder.

Snow is slowly melting now. The hard part about taking winter bird pics is standing around in the cold!

Bah ! I have come out of hibernation but there is still patches of snow on the ground today ….not impressed .

Will start the seedlings about a month later this year.

It sure is a good thing my "longkeepers" Selma and Zhiraff were successfully
longkeeping this year ….till about march 1st this year .
