Default On the Vine Tomatoes

Memorial Day weekend I broke down and purchased On The Vine Tomatoes to go with my fresh spinach. The first one was pretty bad and I left the other two in a shallow dish on the counter. I was going to toss them and noticed they were still perfect. So I kept watching and guess what - they are still in perfect shape, never have spoiled, molded, or shiveled, they have just sat there in the bowl. Gez, I am wondering what the heck I ate! They are going to the garbage this weekend just because. Thought about holding on to them for the Midwest Tomato Fest as a 'can you believe this' - I am amazed and my house has minimal AC. So what are these 'things' and why would they last seemingly forever. Piegirl

Commercial production of on the vine tomatoes is a huge business and there's a long list of hybrids that are used and the majority of them are not available to the public. For obvious reasons shelf life is important in breeding those varieties,

If you want a nice tasty on the vine type why not try Bulgarian Triumph, which is an OP heirloom that I think is terrific. it won't have the shelf life of the hybrids but will be tastier.
