So many mantises, what good fortune to find so many and then get an ootheca for next year! I'm probably going to buy some egg cases for next spring, I currently have just one mantis and she's queen of my humble, little yard. As I'm finding out, one mantis just isn't enough for all the pests.

Neither are 4+! Not complaining- we had a great year but the stinkbugs were pretty abundant and messed up many peppers and tomatoes.

We've been seeing a female mantis almost daily, usually in the pole beans. Saw her today while covering the pepper plants but knowing that the first freeze warning has been issued for tonight made it a little sad.

Stinkbugs are so nasty that even mantises have a hard time with them. Saw a youtube video of a mantis attacking one and recoil with horror and turn tail once the stinkbug released it's stench.

The hard freeze is indeed bad news for the mantises, but the females tend to die within a couple weeks of laying their egg packets so if you find oothecas all over the place the lovely green ladies are probably living on borrowed time. I don't know if my female mantis has found a mate yet, living in my HOA is like living in pesticide/herbicide hell so she's the only mantis I've seen this season.
