Default "Black" Florida tomatoes

The "black" varieties do very well in our humid/winter climate. Having a great season so far in ALL varieties. Picture #8 is "Nyagous" VERY strong/earthy tomato the size of a tennis ball. Not sure will grow it next season. Excuse the cracking, we had a few days of rain and the tomatoes started to crack and split open. No harm done. The varieties are : Black Krim, Nyagous, Amazon Chocolate, Black Cherry, German Black.

Wonderful pictures! How would you rank the flavor for your palate of those?

Cherokee Purple is good, pictures shown in 'an Early Harvest" forum. Black Cherry is good also, Black Krim is a little stronger and thinner skin..not a good keeper. Amazon Chocolate is a little more acid but sweet at the same time, a nice balance. Nyagous in picture #8 is VERY strong and earthy..not sure I like it very well. I like very much the "green" gel U find in black varieties also..makes for great salsa too!I like all the "black" varieties pretty much the same. Except for Nyagous..little to strong for me.

Here's why I think you don't like Nyagous that well

I know all those who posted and know the range of adjectives they use, and trust me,when they say just good, that's way down on the list of possible adjectives.

Douglas, have you grown Margaret Curtain, or Dana's Dusky Rose? Both just crank out the fruit, and it's just dreamy.

Yes I have grown Margaret Curtain in the past. Got seeds from Terry/Secret Seed Cartel..my plant got huge 2 years ago...loaded with fruit ALL at once and then plant died. Plant acted like "determinate". It was a good tasting tomato. Dana's Dusky Rose was very good flavor but didn't produce well for me for some reason. Didn't grow it this season. Stuck with more "reds" and "black" varieties that I know do well for me. So far Italian Heirloom is cracking them out..pear shaped, red tomatoes with high acid / sweet balance...have 16 so far and plant is still full with baby green tomatoes.
