Eight Romaine lettuce plants were purchased in flats and placed in individual pots, which will be kept in the greenhouse for two weeks before planting in the outdoor garden.This procedure gives the plants strong roots and gives a good start when placed outdoors. Romaine lettuce plants can get quite large. Some is eaten fresh and the remainder is made into juice for off season use.

why do you use coffee filters in your transplant cups? Sorry if this was explained elsewhere

The filters stop the dirt from falling out of the drain holes. Sometimes I place the pots on a window sill in the house and this prevents a mess. Also the filters tend to keep the roots together, making transplanting without disturbing the roots.
