Default Southern Calamari Squid

Took my parents out in our boat today for a egiing session, chasing squid. Got 23 of these beauties between the three of us in about 4.5 hours. Find the weed beds, action all round, over sand, very quiet. Size between 7 and 11 inch hoods, this one about 9.

How do you prepare the squid for eating? I am not a big fan of pickled squid or pickled octopus. I ate pickled octopus at a Greek restaurant on the Houston Ship Channel. : (

Nice! I have a fond memory of squid that rolled bountifully on the beach when we were camping up north one time. We boiled them in a big iron pot right there on the beach. Delicious!

My Dad liked to pre-cook a big batch of squid in a pressure cooker, then separate into rings for further cooking (also freezing for later). Made amazing stir fries with those, and very tender and tasty.

We grew normally prepare squid for frying in batter or crumbed. Next lot will be cooked in honey and herbs.

Cleaning is a process that involves skinning and de-winging, removing head and entrails, turning tube inside out to allow for a through clean and final de-winging if required.

Tubes can also be stuffed

Spun the tray around so that those on the outer edge are now in the middle. Only two still to come up, Tasmanian Chocolate and Costuloto Genovese Sal Valente are the slackers

Have managed to get the first lot potted up and moved onto heat for a week or 10 days at a friends commercial native plant nursery, going to have to look at something a bit different in the organising of this next year if I opt to do it again.

planted the following:

Wow, that's quite a list! And that's handy to have a friend who has a commercial place to help grow it all out.

Here we are on this side of the world with spring gardens winding down and fall gardens cranking up and you're just starting spring!

Thanks GoDawgs. He is a fellow parent of the kids primary school and donates plants to the school as part of the "Yarragon Spring Clean", which is a town wide garage sale day organised by the school as a fund raiser. He offered to donate pots and mix for the tomatoes, most of the plants in post 225 will wind up there as part of the day as well. To really make the best use of his heat bed, I am thinking that a group pot up day at the nursery would be the best way to go. Unfortunately some of the earliest ones I potted up were not able to go straight into protection and there have been some losses, mind you he is going through a very messy divorce and aftereffects at the moment.

But I am looking up this as a learning year and hopefully things will go smoother next year

Whoops, just forgot to mention that I also put down some Kang Kong from seed that I saved from two of last seasons plants. Planted this a lot deeper this year, about 1/2 punnet depth hoping that they will not push themselves right out of the mix like a lot did last year

Default Tesselaars Tulip Festival

Down Under the longest commercial grower of Tulips is Tesselaar's. Each year for roughly 60 years they have opened one of their farms for a month long Tulip Festival. This year over 900,000 Tulip bulbs were planted out for the festival, most of them in rows in the paddock area, the rest in a number of display gardens around the festival stage. Around 150 varieties were planted. A few shots of the long rows are attached.
