Top row: two Brandywine Black 6.2, 5.0 and another Big Rainbow 6.8.
Bottom row: Carbon 4.7, 5.5, and 10.2. My Brandywine Black seeds are all producing smaller tomatoes than expected.

Top Row: Sara Black 10.2 and two Grandfather Ashlock 10,2, 10.4 ounces.
Bottom Row: two Berkeley Tie-Dye Heart 4.5, 10.3 and Cherokee Chocolate 8.9 ounces. This was my first Grandfather Ashlock this season. Last year this tomato was the first to profuse ripe fruit. Go figure.

Mark, I like black tomatoes. The only problem with them is that year from year their taste change depending on temperature and UV. Black Brandywine has superb taste one year and ok the next.
This year JD's Special C-Tex has better taste and one plant produced maters 15.5, 11.5, 23.4, 10.5, 12.5, 14.6, and 18.8 ounces so far. Cherokee Chocolate is another tasty and productive one: 9.5, 8.5, 15.6, 7.9, 13.8, 8.8, 4.1, 3.8, 3.3, 6.0, 4.7, 8.0, 6.3, 5.7, 10.8, 13.0, 3.8, 9.9, 7.3, and 8.9 ounces (from one plant 159.7 ounces). If you ask my family which tomato has the best taste they will tell you Black Cherry.

Great looking season efisakov.
Interesting that you mention about the taste variance in the blacks from season to season. I remember one year growing Cherokee Purple and thought it was rather bland and average. I'll have to give it another shot. |

Wow, Ella! That's amazing
I'm glad you liked Sweet Sue. I also like Rosella a bit better, but the sheer productivity of Sweet Sue (along with an above average taste) has earned her a spot in my garden next year. Those Claude Brown’s Y. Giants look amazing (and huge!). I'm not familiar with the variety. How does it taste for you?

Kelli, I have not cut it yet. Letting it ripe a bit more. Will let you know. Maria from blueribbontomatoes has being collecting and distributing seeds of all tomatoes grown in KY over the years. I got seeds of Claude Brown's yellow giant from her.
Gnol, give a shot to Cherokee Purple. Second time around it may be much better.
