Would a bit of algae in the water be a bad thing?

Ok,

In the container forum Mantis came across the fact that in his homemade Selfwatering Container (HSWC) he has a nice coating of green algae growing in the water reserviour. I also have noticed this at the end of the year when I wash my container.

Does anyone now if green algae growing in the watersupply of a tomato plant is a bad thing?

From personal experience I would say no. My tomatoes are usually very healthy and productive, barring any disease. But I am certainly willing to learn if anyone else has experience ill effects from algae in the water.

No ill effects here and I have done it but who am I to say.
I aint the expert for sure.
