recruiterg, photos are taken at my friend's house where I rent an apartment when I go to Lastovo. He built the fireplace himself.

Hi Marko.

Looks like you found paradise. Do you also cook spiny lobster in the outdoor fireplace?

Wow, what a great thread and photos! One question, though.

Is it necessary to freeze the octopus first before cooking if you are going to cook it later in the day after catching, or the very next day?

Wow..The pictures are beautiful.

I haven't tasted octopus, since the time I got the nerve to try a piece from a tin.(The experience, and taste was so off-putting.) However, the way you have prepared this dish looks so tantalizingly delicious!

Dust, do you mean this creature:

Answer is no, on Lastovo only turists order grilled lobster. I prefer lobster simply cooked or in tomato sauce with spaghetti.

Suze, all cephalopods are much more tender if they are frozen for at least one day before use.
This beauty was caught the day before leaving, so I had no time to freeze it.
It was tasty, but not tender. Like overdone steak.

Marko, excellent pictures and now I know where I will spend my next vacation whenever that happens. Interesting fishing tackle for Octopus. How exactly does he fish for them? Ami

This post isn't about recipes, it's a touching story that explains very well why people fell in love with this island:

Ami, you just walk the crab slowly on the floor, if there is an octopus nearby it will attack it. Then you lift it quickly off the floor and it's your's.
