That many heads normal?

A few more sprung up unexpectedly and I just let them grow....

Depending on the variety, it is normal. If you're lucky, they'll have long stems, too!

Yes, it depends on the variety. There are several that are intended for cutting and those have several flowers on multiple branches. Sometimes they have one big flower and then smaller flowers on the side branches. Some of the older, really tall varieties just have one flower at the top. Do you remember which variety this you planted?

None were "planted". All came from the nearby bird feeder!

O.k. so now what do I do? How long do I leave it there? Will the birds attack it? How do I dry it out so I can eat them?

Here are some more pictures just for the heck of it....
I want to save seeds off of this one and grow a bunch around the house they are so pretty....

oh, and they all sprouted from birdseed.....
