Wow, beautiful plants and fruit. Nice job on the HM earthboxes. I just picked up another really heavy-duty storage box yesterday to make another one-I am as much addicted to self-watering containers as I am to tomatoes.

Looking good Tim. That Japanese Oxheart looks very prolific.

Cant wait to load up my boxes and see how they go.
What type of fertilizer are you using in them??

I use a small amount of 10-10-10 (1/2 cup) because I have manure and compost in the soil. I find I get Blossom End Rot if the soil is too fertilizer rich.

Angelique,

The Japanese Oxheart is a very dense firm and fleshy tomato. I would consider the taste more sweet than tart. The flavor is not overpowering. I would consider this a good all round tomato for slicing, canning, or paste. It is not the knock your socks off type of flavor, that you serve to vistors. But it is a good tomato and I got lots of them.

7-3-2006 Added Photos of my Brandywine tomato. Got 4 entire tomatoes from brandywine this year! Also the shape is little strange they had a very oxheart shape to them!?! Big tomatoes though, nice color. Didn't taste as good as the ones last year because I had to pick it early, due to disease on the plant.

Oh well, I will try a fall crop of Brandywine.
