Default Whats wrong?

My stalks on my tomato plants by the ground are really skinny about the size of a pencile. They get bigger higher up the plant. I had toothpicks on each side of them for cut worms but I have since removed them.

Doesn't look like there's anything wrong with the stem. I get that all the time. They usually get thicker as the season wears on. In the second picture it looks like the leaves have a little leaf curl of some kind but that could be for any number of reasons.
