Kelly's 2016 Apartment Patio Garden

When I looked this morning that vine had at least doubled if not tripled in length, and I think another bean plant is getting ready to start climbing soon, too. We planted a few more beans last week to fill in the gaps where a few had died (I think they struggled with the weird weather and cold mornings we were having for a while there). I also think some of the leaves had mold or mildew on them, so I removed all damaged leaves and things look a lot better.

A few updates from last night, hopefully everything looks the same after the storm but I wasn't able to check this morning before work.

Bell pepper is blooming like crazy but no peppers set yet.

Officially out of the honeymoon period with the garden and into the battling-bugs-and-disease stage. Thyme died, I think it had mold like the beans had. All the bean plants we originally started are dead, only one left are the ones we started a couple of weeks ago and with this freak cold snap we've had over the past couple of days who knows how well they'll do? Lavender still has aphids, jalapeno leaves look scorched on the ends (so do the apt complex bushes in front of our patio...I think they must have sprayed something), leafminers are munching on the hollyhocks, Satsuma is dropping leaves with the weird weather stressing it out, and none of the bell pepper blossoms are setting - just dropping off.

Edited to add: nope, jalapeno definitely has aphids. Again.

Oh Worth I know you've probably got it way worse than me, and I know you definitely worked way harder on your garden than I did.

But hey, let's focus on the positive and look at how huge this tomato is getting (no other baby maters yet but still lots of blossoms):

Tomato babies!!


And two of our dwarf marigolds bloomed today.

That one on the left is so lopsided, I have no idea why:

And our basil is getting nice and bushy, this was taken before I harvested a bunch to give my mom yesterday but it didn't make that big of a dent:

Thanks for posting all your pictures--they are great to look at. Do you know what kind of dwarf marigold they are? I grow dwarf marigolds in the cinder block holes of my garden, they stay the perfect size. I grow variety 'Mowgli' it stays under 6-7" tall and are covered in flowers.

You can kinda see in the last bean picture I posted, but we got hit with grey mold on them again with the rain. Only one of them has died so far, though. I used Bill's bleach spray twice over the course of four days and it seems to have stopped the mold growth, but none of the damaged leaves have died off. Spraying with the bleach spray again tonight. Two of the plants are climbing, hopefully we can fend off the mold long enough to let them get bigger so we can cut off the damage without killing them. Pulled all the plants back about a foot from the patio rail, which also seems to be helping with less splashback from the rain, but makes the patio feel even smaller.
