Default Winter grow

Had a pretty lousy year for tomato's this year due to rain and blight. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a micro tomato to grow under lights indoors for a winter project.

Thanks,
lexx

You might find some in Multiflora Dwarfs thread.
The smallest tomato plant that I have grown is : HAHMS GELBE TOPFTOMATE.
It is yellow/gold cherry. It won't get more than 18" tall. Plus it is early too.

Heritage has a good list...
https://heritageseedmarket.com/index...warf-tomatoes/

Do start minimum a dozen seeds if you want 2-3 plants to grow
out. Aprox.
You can cull and continue with the most compact. Obvious at
about 6-8 weeks.
It is a good Winter project. I grew a few dozen
plants last season, 6 varieties, and
at about 8 weeks now this year. Selected 12 and just started
another tray. 18" is pretty tall for a micro but still manageable.
I will cull if one jumps in height above 12-14".

I've only grown Red Dwarf in the micros. Really impressed with the sturdy little growth habit, not affected by low light levels in a winter window, foliage stayed perky and healthy and set lots of little red cherries that were sweet when fully ripe.
So whether you go for the excitement of selecting new varieties in dfollett's micro lines or simply choose an OP, I think growing a microdwarf in the winter is a project you will likely enjoy.

Check out Red Robin, which can grow in a one-gallon container. I think they taste great for a winter tomato!

Hardin's Miniature from Garden Hoard. It gets 6-12" tall. I grow it in 1 gallon trade pots (about 2/3 gallon of soil). They are GREAT! Strong tangy tomato flavor, about 1"+, oval tomato with a point. Determinate growth but indefatigable continuous production. BTW, the picture at
Garden Hoard doesn't do this plant justice. They're bushy and loaded with fruit.

We had the same cool wet nights and blights. July 15 I put in some Celebrity plants. We had our 1st major frost 31deg. last night. This is the only way I have been able to have nice plants with tomatoes till frost.

dfollet aka Dan, is the micro dwarf breeding champ. Look for his threads. I have a few of his seeds that he was kind enough to share. I have grown a lot of commercially available microdwarfs, and his crosses are far superior, especially in regard to flavor.

I'd recommend Maskotka, it's a small determinant cherry that produces a very high crop of sweet toms. I've moved a cutting in my hoop house a couple of weeks ago and considering it's nearly November it's doing very well.

I've been growing indoors on a windowsill or under lights for a while now. Some of these are true micros, some are very compact tumblers or very short determinates. But they are all under 18inches.
