Default Fall Tomato Starts

I'm starting seeds today for my fall tomatoes. I'm hoping for some good fall ripened beefsteaks, but I'm hedging my bet with some determinates as well. My grow list is as follows:

Neves Azorean Red
Paul Robeson
Marmande
African Queen
Brad's Black Heart
Gary Ibsen's Gold
Green Giant
Brandyfred Dwarf
Chocolate Lightning
Tasty Wine
Dwarf Purple Heart
Eva Purple Ball
Cream Sausage
Black Sea Man
Backa
Heinz 1350
Grappoli D'inverno

I'm hoping for a banner year.

What's your usual plant out date for tomatoes? Over the last two years I've been backing up my fall tomato start date to make sure I get full picking before frost hits.

Last year I started seed 6/16 and planted out 7/20. Hurricane Sally came through 9/16 and dumped 7.5" in one day which started funk problems in the tomatoes that I couldn't get rid of. Earlier that usual frost on 11/3 finished all.

Thinking 6/1 for this year's start.

I'm shooting for the second week of July for moving them into the garden. I plan to pot them up religiously and get them out as pretty good sized plants. I'll screen them from afternoon sun during the worst part of the summer to keep the stress down and remove it in the middle of September. We seldom get a first frost before Thanksgiving, so I should have plenty of time for even the larger beefsteaks to ripen.

Thanks for that input! We usually get first frost around Nov 7-10. A few chilly nights before then but the killer a few days later.

I have some shade cloth this year and will ponder deployment methods.
