Ah, right, meant to mention what those are. They are watering spikes. Work great for vacations.

They are basically a tube connected to a porous ceramic probe. The green tube is placed in a reservoir (1 gallon jug in this case). As the water seeps out of the ceramic probe into the potting mix a vacuum is formed which draws water out of the reservoir.

You have to make sure the green cap on the spike is on tight or a vacuum doesn't form and the spike dries out. The water must be below the plants, it's not a siphon. One works fine for 4-6" pots. Larger probably require two spikes/pot.

These are the brand I bought: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've also used strips of fabric pushed down into the soil to wick water to the pots...the wife likes these much better!

Love the look of the plant in the red stripy pot and the elongated fruit. Any ideas to fruit color on these?

I didn't grow anything this winter but I've recently sown quite a few what I hope will be mini dwarf types. Early days as they are only just peeping through, still exciting and can't wait for them to get going . I've sown some of what I call Micro Blue, I think they are at F5 or 6, not the tastiest tomato but look cute and the fruits have great keeping on the plants.

I also saved seeds from a couple of variegated dwarfs last year, now F3. I've sown a few seeds of both, and there's the possibility of a mini dwarf in the breeding. One plant I saved seed from only had slight variegation on the foliage with black tomatoes, but tasted great. Although very young these look to have really small stocky seedlings, something interesting may turn up!

Nope, no color yet on the fruit. Eagerly awaiting that along with taste.

I did get a photo update today from a friend on the ten plants I gave him. He planted in 1 gal. pots and grew in his basement under lights. The plants are now 70 days after transplanting. Looks like he got some dwarf indeterminates that are a few feet tall and some determinates/semi-determinate that are at 18"-20" now. Not quite exactly windowsill size so not sure if to pursue or plant more of the F3 and reselect this summer.

Nice looking plants, interesting leaf shape on some of those. Are they the Kosovo x Tiny Tim F2?

Jay thoose are not the Kosovo f2 plants. Those are a bit behind the one's you see in the picture. I posted a list of my crosses last summer in this thread or another post regarding this project. I'll have to go back and check.

Anything new on the micro front? Here is the same micro with nice looking fruit ripening. Still about the same size plant but new flushes of growth starting.

Lots of seed saved. Next goal is to get variegation into the foliage!

Wow, amazingly compact growth and love the colour coordination too. Are they pinks?

The front 3 dwarfs are Perths Pride x Mydwfa GWR F2, I only managed to save a few seeds so I'm growing the f1 again. Might be lucky and find one is short growing, I'd be happy with anything around 2-3' if it tastes good, and I guess a mini might show in the F3. Picture was from a couple of weeks ago.

This one is a bit of a mystery to me, Variegated x Yellow Furry Hog (PL) F3 but is much smaller growing and stockier than its siblings. I'm hoping it remains short growing.

Micro Blue, not new as I'm hoping these won't be far off stable this year, pictures are from a few weeks ago and they have grown on a lot since. I think the hairiness comes from one of Tom's Blue tomatoes?

I have a few lines of Woolly dwarfs, this F4 seedling looks promising to be a mini type.
