Default USDA Web Soil Survey

Came across this on the Web.

Web Soil Survey (WSS) provides soil data and information produced by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. It is operated by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and provides access to the largest natural resource information system in the world. NRCS has soil maps and data available online for more than 95 percent of the nation’s counties and anticipates having 100 percent in the near future. The site is updated and maintained online as the single authoritative source of soil survey information.

Use the data from USDA Web Soil Survey with caution. After searching on your location, notice the date that the soil sample was taken. Sometimes it is recent, but other times it is very dated: several decades or a century ago. For example, at my former home in San Diego county the survey showed me the soil types and a pH of 5.8 -- in 1935. But, after decades of watering with Colorado River water, the soil is actually around pH 7.
