I plant many of Renee's Garden lettuces including Monet's Garden Mesclun, Sweet Greens and Reds, European Reds and Greens, California Spicy Greens, Paris Market Mix, Italian Misticanza, and the Cut and Come Again. They all are cut and come again lettuce greens which is nice since you can have a really fresh salad in minutes and the plants keep on producing.

Michael,

I too enjoy here mixes. This time it is "Baby Mesclun - Cut and Come Again" and "Lettuce - Farmer's Market Blend" from this page...

I always like to try something new though.

Regards,
D

Sue and D:

There are so many mixes to choose from, and they all seem to be good. I guess when you stack up a home grown just cut lettuce mix against even the organic salad blend from whole foods, no comparison.

Take a look at this one:

That one looks good too especially with the herbs. I hope to try out more this summer.

Michael,

That mix indeed sounds really good! I've never shopped with rareseeds before, but browsed through the pages, they have pretty nice selection of lettuce, microgreens and herbs, making a list!

In the mean time, both of the renee's seeds are sprouting, just took them downstairs under the grow light for a few days, then off to the window.

Don't you just love the fresh cut greens on the plate?

Regards,
D

I have not grown it yet-I just ordered some of their Asian greens to try and grow in my heat this summer.

My wife and I have been eating huge salads every nite-I love the fresh cut greens going from the greenhouse directly to the plate!

We are enjoying the Encore Mix from Johnny's and also the Heirloom Mix from Renee. Of course, mine are growing outdoors.

Thanks! Nothing like stepping out the back door and picking a dinner salad! Are you able to grow lettuce outside in the summer, or is it too warm there?

They grow well here in summer, last summers max was 41C and they were fine.
There's lot of self sown lettuces outside in the garden at the moment but aren't quite good enough to eat because of the frosts, but will come away in about a months time. These i leave to go to seed so that the seed blows about the garden, so always lettuce popping up somewhere through out the season.

My fall greens season is just starting. I am germinating my Italian spinach, bok choy, kale, etc.

Here is what I have so far in the greenhouse. Photo taken 10/25/2010. The first is Jericho romaine, the second is Tarahumara spinach, and the third is arugula.

Med:

They are plastic. I have had them for years.

The Tarahumara spinach is from an Indian tribe in Mexico. Havent tasted it yet, just got seed for it recently.

Is the Tarahumara spinach a true spinach? (As opposed to various greens sometimes referred to as spinach.) Very interesting and looking good!

Dee:

I doubt it. I got it from Native Seeds in Tucson, and just looked for it on their website and it wasnt there. I cut it last night for a stir fry. My wife and I get a distinct horseradish taste when it is sauteed.
