All the yellow pear tomatoes on this plant are splitting down the side! Any idea why? Something missing? Too much water? Everyone I have picked off was split the lenth of the thing and some green ones are split as well. Thanks in adance!

I grew Yellow Pear the first year I grew heirlooms and almost all of them were split. If you just got a lot of rain, that's probably why. It can happen with any variety but I think YP is more prone to cracking than some others. If you think you're in for a big rain, I'd run out and try to pick what you can that's near ripe and let them finish up indoors.

Thanks!
I think I would not know what to pick since green ones are splitting too! We have had a lot of rain preceeded by no rain for weeks on end! I will keep that in mind for future crops! |
