I will be starting a germination test tomorrow the 18th. There are 5 varieties, but I won't list them until after the germination tests. I may also send in a lot of varieties I have received in the past. With FFF,N ridden soil, and turning the main garden into a chicken pen - I don't need so many varieties.

hmm, I should check my germination too, now that I think I did keep my seeds for longer while fermenting. Providing we are decent at germination I will send few here and there from this year growth, my list posted in separate post 2017 tomato report.

Can I print labels for folks sending in seeds?
Can I print (1/2" x 2-3/4") labels for all of you folks who are sending in quantities of seeds? It's very easy for me to do (and I have lots of label stock on hand, and I'm quick about getting stuff to the post office, so you'd have them quite promptly).
I can't imagine handwriting out hundreds of labels -- makes my hands hurt just to THINK about it! If you'd like me to do you some, just PM me a list of varieties with how many labels you want for each, and your mailing address, and I'll get 'em made and in the mail to you posthaste! Michelle, that's a very generous offer. I'm printing my own labels, so I'm fine, but thank you for offering.

That is a generous offer!
If someone knows how to set up a label format document, there's an alternative to using label stock. I use small ziplock baggies and have started using a label layout for multiples of a seed label, printing them on a sheet of paper then cutting out the individual labels and tucking them into the bags with the seeds. This way the recipient can re-use the baggies after the seeds are sewn. |

I harvested about a dozen deep red peppadew peppers that I hope are ripe enough for seed saving. I thought they were mildly hot but not intolerable for someone that can't eat hot peppers. The peppers were unbagged (but I didn't grow any other hots) and no germination test.
These produced a ton of seeds per pepper so there are plenty for the asking. Tomatoes shall remain a mystery at this time. - Lisa |

And speaking of labeling...
...the only thing I require on a label is the variety and date of harvest (you may want to use the previous year for commercial seed). My hand written labels read like this... Aunt Ginny's Purple '17 It's OK to abbreviate WELL known varieties like... GGWT '17 KBX '17 (varieties that are abbreviations) SOTW '17 When you send in seeds, one time only on your send in list, give as long of a description as you'd like. |

Success with saving seeds (though I have not done germination test) for Eggplant Louisiana Long Green (you can see pics at the Burpee website). I disagree with reviews though. It was not a tall plant for me, and it came in early for an eggplant. I have a plastic half whiskey barrel in my front walkway and I planted two of theese green eggplants, a Diamond and two Purple Long plants. They looked very decorative, stayed around two feet and were super productive. I tied them to a red v-shaped post. You are not allowed to have vegetables visible in frount yards in my neighborhood.

Ugh. I found a jar of Mamie Brown that I forgot I was fermenting. It was so old that there were zillions of seeds with a radicle about an inch long swimming around. It was in a jar covered with a napkin and it never went dry. It didn't have a fungal mat. Bummer as it was a good producer.
