Default Watering Idea for Straw Bales or Garden Boxes

I have a few tomatoes in straw bales mixed in with the plants in the ground in raised garden boxes. I needed a way to water and didn't want to use a a soaker hose that would end up watering the ground in between the bales and the boxes.
I came up with this idea for a water wand and my husband put it together.
For each water wand you need:
1 - 3/4 inch 4 foot piece of PVC pipe
1- End cap for the PVC
1- Irrigation screw on adapter for PVC
1- Garden hose cut-off
1- Oatey primer and glue that is water proof

Drill small holes in the PVC about 1/8 inch in diameter at 4 inch intervals. Connect the end cap and irrigation screw on adapter with the primer and glue. Let dry a few minutes.

The last photo shows how the water comes out with no splashing. I was able to water each bale in about 2 minutes. It works equally well in garden boxes.

I did the same thing this year. The only problem I've seen is I seem to be getting more water out of the plugged end. I was thinking about replacing it and putting smaller holes in that end so the pressure would back up and force more out of the connection end. For now, it's working fairly well.
