Default Del Mar tomato

I have some old 2005 seed from Chuck Wyatt's Heirloom tomatoes. One of the varieties was Del Mar, and I thought I'd try it this year. No germination (two tries) from this old seed. I've seen it mentioned in the 2007 Seed Savers Exchange catalog, but not elsewhere.

Has anyone here tried this variety?

Thanks.

Nope, don't remember it at all and so far here's what a Google search turns up

Maybe you can find something here.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks. Tried a Web search and did not find much. Seed Savers Exchange catalog of 2007 had a small blurb on them. I suppose the "Del Mar" isn't "of the sea" so much as it is "Delaware Maryland," which leads me to guess that this is an Atlantic seaboard variety.

One of the things I stumbled upon was that Lewes, MD had a neighborhood called "Tomato Alley" known for its canning activity at one time.

Too late to try starts again, maybe will try again next spring.

Chuck lived near Baltimore Maryland, I knew him very well,he was a pilot in the air force, after he retired he did two things. He hired a crew of workers who cleaned various offices in many different buildings in Baltimore.

I wish I could remember why he started his seed business,
but I don't. I think I first met him when both of us were on Compuserve, another message site, long since gone.

As his health declined another person near him helped him out a lot, can't remember his name either.

This was the variety that he was so proud of since he had found it.

It says from 2003, but Chuck died in 2002. I met him just once in PA.
