Who's winning?
Not getting into politics...
Matters! Not quite ready to pick but it looks like the first to ripen is CP with a San Marzano Nano in close second. Although I have another one worth a mention I got from dust bowl seed called Tenkiller Cherry and that plant has a boat load of fruit and in no way are they cherry size. More like a golf ball size. |

My CP tomato is getting big. For some reason it's growing PL.
Ozone, I think Punta Banda is going to produce a lot like Porter. I'll be saving a few hundred seeds from it as long as the weather cooperates. |

In my garden there is a race going between Big Beef and Better Boy on red division.
In the DARKs divistion an unknown IS-like variety is well ahead. It is flowering. Daniel Burson is way behind. Black from Thula and Cherokee Purple are running neck and neck. But too early to tell. It is too early on the stretch. Gardeneer |

Picked a few Juliets last week. Yesterday got my first Cherokee Purple (a Bonnie's plant that I bought and bumped up to a gal. in the GH), a couple of San Marzanos, Sungolds and more Juliets. I have Cherokee Purple from three sources this year-Bonnies, an unknown-likely Petersons form San Antonio and one I grew from Johnnie's Seed.

I set 15 CP yesterday...12 I grew from my saved seed and 3 Bonny. I have I have 65 more plants to set if the rain and mud ever let up. Not counting the beans, cukes, egg plants, corn and peppers. Unbelievable weather pattern like others in recent yrs. Duration becoming month long when it used to be a week at the most.

Nothing near ready to pick, but George Detsikas Italian Red is the first with greenines. Daniels and Terhune had one greenine the next day.

Picked first brandywine yesterday. It was the first fruit to set and ended up a little smallish - 6.2 oz. It needs to ripen a bit more before I can try it.
Cherokee Purple is ahead of Black from Tula. Dead heat between Better Boy and Big Beef. |

Yup. I followed your schedule for decades. The southern schedule is new to me. My sister is just getting her plants in the ground now too.

I went in the ground on 4/30, just 9 plants to start. Flowers on 2 bloody butchers, i left them on, so those are likely to be the winners -will find out in 2 months. Last night I rolled up the plastic on the low hoops, to protect the tomato plants, we have rain for the next 2 weeks.

Most all my plants have begun to set fruit, but Biyskaya Roza is going to be the winner this year. I have one fruit about the size of a baseball.

I'm sure it's one heck of an adjustment.. On the brighter side, in the dead heat of your guys' summer, at least we'll be swimming in lycopene .. The glass is half full..? lol

Punta Banda is on my 2017 list to grow. Where did you get the seeds?

Edit/added - you can grow some tomatoes for a fall garden here - this is probably one. I know Porter is. Frisco in Summer/Fall is just like where I live. Last edited by AlittleSalt; May 3, 2016 at 11:54 PM. |
