CHOPTAG will hold its 4th annual Plant Swap this year on Saturday, May 6th from 12noon until 3pm.

We’ll be gathering at Paxton Ramsey Park over on the east side of Cincinnati, in the Loveland, OH area again this year. The park is only minutes off the I-275 Wards Corner exit.

We’ll post more info as the time draws near but be sure to add this event to your spring calendar. We have a great time sharing plants, stories and good food.

It's good to see some of the CHOPTAGers about.

Would anyone be interested in possibly setting up a work session at the plant swap to make ourselves some homemade earthboxes? I've never made one, but I'd like to. Anyone who was interested could bring the materials with them, and people who had the correct tools could bring those, and we could set up an assembly line and all go home with however many homemade earthboxes we'd brought enough materials to make.

I've never been to a CHOPTAG plant swap, so if this just wouldn't fit into the program, just ignore me! I don't have the right drill bits, and I was just sitting here wondering who I could borrow them from when I realized that other CHOPTAGgers might be interested.

Val

Anything tomato related is pretty much OK at any of our gatherings. Keep in mind it is a family affair.

I’m not an earthbox person so I’m no help on knowing what you might need in the way of materials or tools.

But if you let me know what tools you need I can probably supply them. According to my wife I have more tools than the law allows. If lumber is involved I may be able to help there also.

I have two, three, or four of each of these currently. I won't plant more than one of any variety, so if all goes well I will have some to share. So speak up if you're interested, anyone! I have very limited space under my lights so if there's no interest in my extras, I'll probably have to cull them. Any suggestions for ones that should be the last extras to cull (because they'd be more likely to interest people at the share) are appreciated!

Baker's Family Heirloom
Ceylon (1 to Earl)
Guido (1 to Dave)
Ixmiquilpan Wild
Kimberley
Lillian's Yellow Heirloom (1 to Michael)
Matina
Matt's Wild
Persimmon
Sophie's Choice
Zapotec Pink Ribbed (1 to Michael)

Jerry, I'd love to get an Omar's Lebanese.

Jerry, are your Guido up yet? Mine are REALLY tall, like twice the size of any of the other seedlings.

Jerry, the homemade earthbox directions call for 1/4" drill bit and a 1 1/2" drill bit. I've got a 1/4", but not a 1 1/2". It also calls for a jigsaw or small handsaw. Of course, using a jgsaw and electric drill assumes there's electricity available, either actually at the shelter or from someone's car parked nearby that has an electrical outlet. I do have a cordless drill, though.

Jerry,

I definitely want Big Rainbow, if you could save one for me.

Lisa

Here's what I'm growing. Whether or not these will be available at CHOPTAG depends on 2 things: 1) how successful I am at transplanting and 2) Farmer's market opens the weekend before the Plant Swap. I'm hoping to sell out!

SO... if you see anything you want, tell me and I will save one or two for ya!

Roma VF
Druzba (1 Reserved for Cathy)
Polish Linguisa
Principe Borghese
Glacier
Wonderlight
Delicious
Tigerella/Mr. Stripey
Galina's Yellow Cherry
Goose Creek
Silvery Fir Tree (1 for MMS)
Dr. Wyche's Yellow
Kellogg's Breakfast (1 reserve for ZBQ)
Mexico Midget
Rio Grande
Green Zebra (1 reserve for ZBQ)
Marion
Fourth of July (F2)

Just updated my list - had to remove a few because I lost some to freezing temps a couple weeks ago - and I have added:
Earl's Faux - had quite a few late germinators
1 Isis Candy
1 American Beauty

OK. I have an Omar’s Lebanese flagged for Val and a Big Rainbow for Lisa.

Val – It’s good to hear about Guido. I’m not sure what has germinated yet for me. I didn’t have time this morning to cross reference against my planting chart. I’ll do that tonight if I can get home through the snow.

I have a 1 ½ inch drill bit I’ll be happy to bring, along with a drill to use it in. There is electric at the shelter although it is 50 or so feet away. I’ll bring an extension cord.

Jerry, cool! I'll buy materials and bring my tools too. I'll post over at GW when we get a little closer to see if anyone else wants to bring materials.

Thanks for the Omar's!

Jerry / Val:
Could you please provide some info on Guido.
Sounds interesting-not that I really need another one, but-----you know.

I keep forgetting we have an Offical CHOPTAG forum. :-)

Guess I'd better quit messing with the GH and pay more attention.

I'm not sure who all wants a Kimberly, but I can tell Valeree and Dave that their's are now about a foot tall and have flowers. :-) Too. Sorry y'all, but in the Spring I don't deliver plants with ripe fruit on them. LOL.

I just planted seeds of my main season types this weekend so I don't know yet what I'll have to share, but will post when I know.

Earl, LOL on the flowering Kims!

Dave, I've never grown Guido before, got the seeds this year from Val McMurray in Canada, who is on here as grungy. It's determinate, red, 70 - 80 days, 2-4 pounds.

Now I remember who else I promised a plant to -- it was Jerry, a Ceylon. Sorry about that! I've edited my list above.
