Kook kwick pressure cooker.
KOOK KWICK Pressure cooker.
What do you guys think should I restore this old dog to its past glory? It belonged to my wife's grandmother and she gave it to me many years ago. Right now it has my arrow head collection in it. There isn't a thing wrong with it and it doesn't require a gasket (I think). My mother had one of these but a lot bigger and she had a big old all American too. Since this canner is small and has a smooth bottom I can use it on my glass top stove. Here it is. IMG_2015032333557.jpg IMG_2015032317810.jpg Last edited by Worth1; March 23, 2015 at 04:09 PM. |

Okay folks I got her up to 10 pounds and she held.
I think we're in business. Dont try this at home this test was conducted by a professional that is used to working around extreme pressure. Under pressure with no leaks and no gasket. IMG_2015032321900.jpg Venting steam. IMG_201503236919.jpg |

I dig restoring the good old stuff to work like new. Glad you saved her from the bone yard or in this case the shelf.

I need to make a new handle and clean her up a bit but it will work for what I need. Might look into getting a new gage but I can test this one at home with my high dollar gauges. I used the test and calibrate gauges. Worth One more picture before I get her cleaned up good. IMG_201503236345.jpg |

It looks really nice. All I've found so far online is that it might be the 3 gallon size.

Thanks guys.
I did a trial run at 15 pounds for about 30 minutes and everything functions properly. The first time the pressure relief valve went off it scared the devil out of me. You basically set the thing for whatever pressure you want. If it goes up about 4 pounds higher it pops up and releases some steam till it get back down to whatever pressure you want. Plus you adjust the burner so it doesn't go off all of the time. Worked like a champ. I need to find something for the bottom to set the jars on. It will hold 7 pints 4 quarts and I dont know how many half pints. Of course like any pressure canner you can also water bath with it. I need to order a new gauge for it and am looking for a nice brass one to go with the antique look. Worth |

Worth,
Great looking beast! Think you're going to enjoy using it for its original purpose than just for storing arrowheads. Looking forward to seeing how it looks all cleaned up and with the new gauge.

Worth, I have one of those I am going to put in use one of these days. It was my grandmothers and I remember my Mother using it when I was a kid. It seems to be built just like the All American canners.

My mom had the all American and found the old Kook Kwick in town at the monthly town square rummage sale/blue grass singing. Back then she may have only paid $5.00 for it. It had the big metal band that went around it and locked down. She had a little cooker she used for years, the safety plug blew out and ruined the ceiling. Covered in bean glop. I have no idea how it could have happened. Maybe the steam hole to the weight got stopped up. I just tested my gauge with 3 other very good gauges and they all read dead on the same. The gauge functions properly from 0 to past its 20 pound limit with no sticking. Since we all know how good these old gauges were built I am not going to replace it until I can order what on line, it works just fine. Worth |
