Update:
I planted my SWC with leaf lettuce and spinach. I planted a large pot with swiss chard. We have really enjoyed the fresh greens this fall and I hope to be able to continue to plant and grow them all thru the winter in my little greenhouse.

I was just sliding some out of the packet into the palm of my hand, and then using surgical tongs to lift two or three at a time. This works perfectly for a small operation, but I certainly see the value of the mix if you plant a lot more... Oh, BTW - Are lettuce best planted in full or partial sun? TNX |

Full sun is better, but will tolerate some shade.

Just went into the greenhouse today and found almost all of my lettuce seedlings cropped off by my friendly neighborhood squirrels. They left me several pecans in payment. Those little furry tailed rats no longer seem cute anymore. They have given me fits this year. They have thinned my carrots almost to extinction, cut some of my young brocoli and cropped my lettuce like a weed whacker and they seem to have developed a taste for blushing tomatoes. |

Not a hard call anymore. I used to live and let live when their destruction of my garden was manageable but the little #%$%$#$%^s have pushed me to far. They are now an endangered species in my yard.
