Question about seed purchasing...
This is an embarassing question to ask...so let me preface with this:
as I'm looking thru all my saved/obtained seeds, I evidently did not save seed from my Amish Paste & Hillbilly tomato harvest this year *DOH!!!* I saved many Brandywine Sudduth, Brandywine Pink, & Riesentraube seeds tho. As I'm looking online at companies like Victory, SSE, Bakersville, etc, I didn't notice approximately how many seeds come in a packet. Is there a standard out there when purchasing in packets (e.g., 25, 50, 100, etc seeds per packet)??? I'm going to need 100 Amish Paste and 100 Hillbilly seeds so I want to ensure there's enough when I place my order... Thank you in advance for answering this embarassing question, Steve |

They're all different! Usually the number of seeds is posted on the first info page in the tomato section.
Or maybe someone can refer you to a place where you can get 100 seeds in a package? |

Steve,
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange has Amish Paste in 1.5 gram packages. That should get you the 100 and then some. Len

Much obliged, folks. I went back to a few sites and there isn't a "x seeds per packet" listed anywhere. Some offer fractions of ounces and at least I know approximately what I'm getting there.
Thanks for your prompt responses. Steve |

Most will contain 25-40 seeds unless stated in it's description in the catalog." |

In various places on my web site I have these lines -- "packs are weighed to 0.1 gm (about 25-40 seeds).
Mini packs are $1.25 / pack weighed to 0.05 gm. They contain about 15-25 seeds." I also have a chart with the weight of the various packs I offer and the aprox seed count. I'll paste it but I don't know if it will line up properly here. Mini pack Full pack 1 gm 5 gm 10 gm Aprox seed count 15-25 25-40 250-400 1200-1500 2500-3000 There is a "range" as seeds can vary a lot variety to variety. Some seeds are just heavier. Some are larger or smaller than average. http://knapps-fresh-vegies.netfirms....toes-2010.html I do have both of the varieties you mention tho they aren't on the "new" page since I've had them for a couple of years. I offer my seeds in the gram weight since that is the type of scale I have. I have a small 10 gram balance beam type scale that will weigh as small as 0.01 gram. I also have 3 larger scales I use for my farm markets that weigh in lbs and can go up to 30 lbs by 0.01. But for anyone that doesn't know, scales are the most INACCURATE at the bottom and top of their range. Trying to use those big scales to weigh a small amount accurately is next to impossible. 1 oz is just 0.06 lb. Carol |
