Well the bucket is internally divided with a water reservoir and a growing section, just like an Earthtainer. In theory the lake just keeps the reservoir filled. Last year, the bucket kept slipping down, especially after rains so I added the lines you can see tied to the handles to hold it up higher.

Right now I am floating them on large lilly pads, might get risky when they top heavy with Toms...

A little different idea, Chinampas:

(These did not actually float, they only looked like floating gardens
if you were standing on shore and watching gardeners travel
from one to another by canoe. They were actually built up from
a shallow lake bed, with wattle rectangles anchored at the corners
retaining the part of the soil that was under water.)
