Default Its interesting how tomato tastes diminish in the Fall

The same grape tomato that tasted like candy in August now tastes like a supermarket tomato. Its from the same bush but it is now much colder outside

That is only true for folks like you that live up north where it gets cold at night this time of year.
It is like refrigerating them and can only take one night to kill the flavor.

Last tomatoes standing for me are two Sweet 100's. I've nearly stopped watering them and they're still sweet, but the skins are thick and leathery.

SunGold goes from a 9.9 to a 9.0, but I'm not complaining.

No, best not to complain. Look at what poor Linda posted.
Hers went from a 9.9 to NADA.

My complaint is that I have some late varieties just ripening now. It has been in the 40's and 50's. I doubt that what I will be tasting is what the varieties true potential is. I bet I do not care for them much.

I've always thought that the cooler temps and the lessening sunlight might cause the plants to develop less sugars and that would make flavors flat and/or more tart.

I have several plants that are actually having a second rush to set fruit. Blooms all over the place, but the weather tells me it will be all for naught.

I happened upon a single ripe tomato from a bush I was yanking out. Since I haven't had tomatoes for some weeks now, I happily cut it up for some tacos tonight. While it tasted better than a supermarket one, it made me sad as I remembered how much sweeter and juicier it used to be...ah, the waning days of summer...

The toms I am getting are still really tasty but they are ripening slower now. So far our lowest night temp has been 63 and the days are in the low to mid 80s except on rainy days. If the temps drop much more the toms will really ripen slowly and they will be more tangy. We have gotten a half a foot of rain or more this past week so I may have some excessive splitting and a lot more gray mold and other foliage diseases along with weakening flavor. I have a lot of fruit on the vine so a bit more sunshine would be nice but it started raining again last night so we have had almost no sunshine in over a week.

BRING THEM INSIDE at the very early suggestion of blush and let them ripen in your warm kitchen, living room ...
I think sugar is produced in the fruit not supplied by the plant.
I COULD BE WRONG !
