All to say that she sent me enough seeds to make a direct offer in my next seed offer here, hopefully coming up in a week or two bc I'm still waiting for some 2015 ones to be returned to me. Great looking varieties, and quite a few I know very well, so let's hope for a great summer tomato season for you,my seed producers and everyone here at Tville. Carolyn

I am sowing both red and yellow sugar drop seed that was saved this year. I have sent Lee some of the red seed for him to evaluate.

Below is my list. I might have forgotten some because I am not at home and don't have my master list with me. I have about 6 or 7 neighbors that I provide tomato plants to. We live in an RV park on the intracoastal waterway in central Florida (Mosquito Lagoon near New Smyrna Beach) so they are just steps away from me and we all share the tomatoes that end up growing... :-) I also took advantage of the Earthbox free shipping and got 8 new earthboxes (thank you Marsha and Barb for reminding me when the free shipping kicked in!).

Diseases attacked it aggressively. Plants next to it were relatively unscathed and this one really struggled, two plants grown about 1 month apart. I held their hand, applied all the remedies and was able to get them out of the intensive care unit. All others from those two lots of seedlings have and are producing well, SNFLA are not even racing with the pack.
I may give it another shot in the middle of summer...emphasis on may. |

I had the opposite experience with SNFLA -- plant stayed healthy right through the season while neighbors struggled, one of my better producers, and really good flavor. It'll be back next year.

That's what makes this place excellent, ying /yang, just depends on the end user conditions.

I think I'm getting close to...a tentative...nooo. Okay, but... One more day of researching and...
It is fun making a tomato growing list. There are so many factors. You want to grow plants that do well in your neck of the woods, but some others just look so appealing . And then there are the popular ones - those with glowing recommendations - ones from other countries with like growing conditions - ones you traded with people half way around the globe. This one grows thorns, and that one has foliage that looks like a fir tree. Somewhere in the mix, you want to grow out some of your personal F2 and F3s, and crosses. And grow out others' crosses. Try the "Better than Sungold" varieties...etc. Then there is how to grow all those tomatoes. Stakes, cages, weaves, etc. Can you afford the water bill? I'm hoping my wife and I can come up with a tomato growing list by this coming weekend. |
