GH is now up and running

Not much activity in this section so I thought I would post.
Put up my 6 by 10 flexable cheapy on the 11th. It took wind gusts to 55mph on the 13th. Wouldn't you have guessed it would do that?. I had steel fence posts in each corner. Found I have to use heat in it cause we still get frost here in Colorado. No body told me that. Every thing is a whole new learning experience. I am slowing moving tomatoes from a cool room in the house out to it. I am still not 100 percent confident that it will work and not blow away. I will save my cowlicks and big zac for last.

What brand did you get? I have a 10 x 10 Shelter Logic and am getting another one this season, a 12 x 12. I didn't use the tie downs provided but instead puchased large dog stake tie downs for each corner. It is pretty secure in the winds.

You shouldn't have to heat it unless temps get into the upper 20's or lower...unless it's super drafty...in that case you might want to seal it up with some foam strips or caulk. A frost won't affect the plants in there if you close it up in the evening. One way to retain some heat is to use a heat sink or some kind. I save gallon milk jugs, fill them with water and place them around the shelves near my plants. They heat up during the day and release heat in the evening...works for me.

I got it from Greenhousemegastore. They called it a "portable" but no longer list it.The cover was preformed and dropped over the frame. It does not retain any heat at night. I have remote thermometers in it and outside. Even swapped the thermometers toi check them. Might get better when I get it filled. A small electric heat works great.

I have a small starter greenhouse maybe not quite as large as that one. I call it a starter g/h, because it's only large enough to have small plants in before they move outdoors. I use a heat lamp (like one would use for poultry) on a timer for just enough heat to keep above freezing. Those remote thermometers are great. I keep one by my bed so I can monitor the greenhouse at night.

With this wild weather this year the GH is the only way to go. I love it, except when the wind blows.
